Tip: Meaningless phrases such as "references furnished
upon request" can almost always be deleted from resumes...

This extra verbiage does nothing to increase or improve an applicant's chances of getting a job interview. Its absence is never missed. It is unreasonable to imagine a scenario in which a reviewer balks at a resume on their desk and exclaims "FORGET THIS ONE! It doesn't have that line about references ... on...request!!" Typically, references should be given on an application and/or during the interview process. Since the resume's purpose is to get an interview, it is not necessary to take the next step and pre-list your references before you've even been interviewed and it is even less necessary to inform a prospective interviewer in writing -- on your resume -- that "references are available on request."

Although there are some exceptions, a good interview-getting resume will usually be made to fit on one very full page.

Inferior resume services will often submit to creating resumes that fill 2, 3 or even more pages out of laziness. It actually takes more effort to customize a good resume to fit onto one page than it does to just let it take up "as much room as it needs." In some ways, the process is similar to film or book editing. Our professionals first take time to write your resume and then take additional time to edit out / adjust that which needs to be (and can be) edited/adjusted to fit on one page. Too many other services go out of their way to create resumes the way their clients believe a resume should be created. In contrast, we go out of our way to create a resume in a manner believed to get the attention of a prospective employer; advising you as to the rationale behind our editing decisions throughout the writing process. If you insist on something being included, we will of course---do so... but not without first doing our job and advising you as to the potential consequences of your decision. In sum, we are committed to providing the service you're hiring us to perform: consulting, advising, AND professional resume creation. Use our experience and our background to improve the odds of finding a job!
